Kårvalet 2021 – election results

The Election Commission hereby presents the election results in the union election Kårvalet 2021! Between 22 and 29 October, the union election was held, where Medicinska Föreningen’s student members had the chance to vote for a maximum of five candidates. The election results have now been compiled and the Election Commission can hereby announce the distribution of seats in the union election Fullmäktige (FuM) 2021/2022!

The constituent meeting of FuM is on Saturday, November 20th at 11.00. At this meeting, positions of trust within Medicinska Föreningen 2022 will be elected, e.g. President, vice President, secretary and the rest of the Board. Read about the positions here and apply no later than November 4th if you are interested in a position!

Turnout: 497 people corresponding to 18.9%
Total number of votes: 1689
Average number of votes per person: 3.4 (min 0 votes, max 5 votes per person)
Number of candidates in the general election: 34

According to the bylaws, 15 of the 29 seats in FuM are reserved for section representatives. After the sections have appointed representatives, the other seats in FuM are filled by candidates from the general election. The sections filled 6 seats and thus there were 23 seats to be filled via the general election.

The turnout in this year’s union election was almost 19%, the highest since 2017! Last year the turnout was 14.7% and the year before 13.3%.

* Magnus Hellström and Lena Alm were appointed by the Nursing Section (SSEK) as regular section representative and substitute, respectively, and were thus assigned seats as section representatives instead of in the general election.

Sections – seat distribution

According to the bylaws of Medicinska Föreningen, 15 of the 29 seats in the union council are reserved for the sections. All section boards may elect a regular member and a substitute to represent the section in FuM.

The three largest sections; the Medical Students’ Section (LS), the Doctoral Students’ Association (DSA) and the Biomedical Educational Section (BUS) may appoint an extra regular member and an extra substitute. A substitute is personal and can only accede when the section’s regular representative is absent. Of the 15 reserved seats, 6 were appointed by the sections.
