The Medical Students’ Section (Läkarsektionen, LS) is the section for students at the Medical Programme and Complementary Programme for Physicians with a Medical Degree from outside the EU/EES and Switzerland at Karolinska Institutet. As a member of Medicinska Föreningen and registered at one of the programmes you are a member of LS.

The primary task of the Medical Section is to oversee educational matters. We do this by representing all medical students in education-related issues and appointing student representatives to theme colleges, committees, the Program Council (PR), the Program Board (PN), and various working groups within Karolinska Institutet. Any section member can be elected by the section board as a student representative in these bodies.
By evaluating and reshaping courses, helping to solve problems, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement, and participating in long-term development work, the section’s student representatives have significant influence over the structure of the program.
During the semesters, all medical students are invited to section meetings. There, we discuss current education-related issues and check in with student representatives on the progress of their work in the various colleges and committees.
Two to three times per semester, national OMSiS meetings are held, where representatives from all medical schools gather to discuss educational matters related to medical training. This is a great opportunity to connect with students from other universities and gain insight into how different programs compare. The Medical Section coordinates these meetings in Stockholm and participates in all OMSiS meetings held in other cities.

LS also arranges social activities for the section members. Among other things, Läkarintrot arranges reception activities at the beginning of each semester for all new medical students, LÄSK arranges parties and pubs and Med-SM competes against Sweden’s other medical students in Medicinar-SM.

The social committee of LS (LÄSK) makes sure to keep student life going at KI and arranges lots of fun events for medical students, such as parties and pub crawls.
Medicinar-SM is a competition that is arranged once a year, where all 7 of Sweden’s medical programmes competes in swimming, volleyball, football, floorball, tug of war and running.
Medicinska Föreningen i Stockholm (MF) is the largest student union at Karolinska Institutet (KI) and together we work daily to make your time here as great as possible. MF monitors the education at KI and makes sure that they keep a high standard and that all students are well taken care of.
