Framtidens Kårhus

This autumn 2017 we finally take a big step forward in the project Framtidens Kårhus (FKH) – Future Union House.

Medicinska Föreningen (MF) has, among other things, hired Anna Eklöf as project manager who has several years of experience in MFs organization. The main goal is to create an inspiring, efficient and modern union house by the end of 2020.

“We want to create an inspiring union house where students can meet and fully concentrate on the union activities and knowledge exchange instead of maintaining the house”

  • Background

It’s been over 30 years since the union house in Solna underwent a complete renovation. At that time they rebuilt an extension, the Aula, which remains a very important part of the house today. Over the years some maintenance work has been done but not enough to keep the house in a good condition. That has left the house in great need of renovation. We need to renovate everything from floors, walls and ceilings to implement more modern technology that is required for today’s activities.

Medicinska Föreningens student union house is ideally located close to Aula Medica, Biomedicum, Nya Karolinska Sjukhuset and Hagastaden. We see a positive opportunity that our union house will have a central place for students to meet in different types of activities at the union. With an improved and well-equipped union house, we will be able to offer an inspiring environment where students, researchers, teachers and alumni can meet at the heart of Campus Solna.

  • Fundraising campaign

When the union house was expanded and renovated during the 1980s, this was done with generous support from among others, Kjell and Märta Beijers Foundation. Today MF does not have the financial resources to do this renovation on its own. Therefore, MF will start a fundraising campaign starting in the Autumn of 2017.

  • Project manager

As a part of this project and the fundraising campaign MF has hired a project manager, Anna Eklöf. Anna has a long history in MF where she was vice chairman in 2010-2011. She graduated from Karolinska Institutet in 2011 and has been working around Stockholm since then. Now she has chosen to return to MF and run the project Framtidens Kårhus. She won’t be able to do this all herself as this project will involve all parts of MF in some way. If you are interested in becoming an integral part of the make-over of the century, this is your chance!

“During my active years in MF, I see what a difference the Student Union does. It creates an open place where everyone can meet and exchange ideas with one another on topics ranging from singing and dancing, to more professional and educational matters. The students have a great and important role in a university, which we should never forget. I felt no question in accepting this offer to become the project manager for the project Framtidens Kårhus, for MF will always have a special place in my heart. I have always placed great value on the students and this will be one way of showing that.”
