Kårvalet 2021 – candidates

The Election Commission hereby presents the candidates in the union election – Kårvalet 2021! The union election is your opportunity to decide who should make important decisions that affect the whole student union, all of the sections, committees, commissions, associations and members – what future do you see in Medicinska Föreningen?

Look through the candidates, read their motivations and choose who you want to see in the union council Fullmäktige (FuM) 2021/22.

The voting link has been sent out via KI survey to all student members’ e-mails on October 22nd. Remember that the link has been sent to the e-mail address that is registered for you in the member register and also check the spam mail. Did you not receive the voting link? Get in touch with the Election Commission and we will help you.

The union election takes place between October 22nd and 29th. Vote for a maximum of five candidates and do it latest on Friday, October 29th at 23:59.

As many as 37 candidacies have been received by the Election Commission in this year’s union election, which is a new record (at least in the last decade)! The Election Commission has been able to find in the archive the previous year which was almost as popular, in 2013 the number of candidates was 35. Can we break a record with the voter turnout as well?

Two applicants were not MF members and one candidacy was withdrawn, hence the final number of candidates in the election is 34.

New projects, among others the future planning of MF real estate, are coming up, and I believe that my interest and energy would be of benefit to FUM as well as to MF as a whole in this project and future ones.

I have been a member of FuM for the last two years, during which I have learned a lot about Medicinska Föreningen as an organization and about the decision making processes there is. Now that I have gained this knowledge, I would like to continue to be a part of FuM to be able to participate in future important decision about Medicinska Föreningen. Right now a lot of things are happening at the union and I really look forward to be a part of and see where Medicinska Föreningen is going these upcoming years!

Medicinska Föreningen is our student council, and is our chance to have an impact on both the education and the student life here at KI. Both the education and the student life has suffered during the pandemic, just like us, and it’s therefore central that MF works hard in what is (hopefully) the end of the pandemic to make sure that our needs as students are fulfilled.

That’s why I’m running for fullmäktige – to make sure the sacrifices both the education and student life has made during the pandemic don’t become permanent and that we get a new, fun and accessible student life and the best possible education.

Till sist vill jag även öka friheten inom mf och bredda ramarna för hur vi använder samt får in resurser.

As a student that moved from the USA during the pandemic and started school on zoom, it was especially hard for me to get involved in KI student life my first semester. Since I studied at university in the USA as well, which is very different from school in Sweden, it was hard to find ways to get involved. This fall, with many things in person, I have been able to get into the student life more by joining several clubs including Läkarsektionen, global friends, PrU and idrottsutskottet. All of this engagement plus the culture differences and the new school environment I was thrown into left me with many questions on how KI works, and what goes into creating student life at KI. What I long to do in the MF council is to work to keep the quality of Ki student life, and hopefully make changes for the better so that the next student in my position is able to have the best possible KI experience!

Ever since I started med school a little over 3,5 years ago MF has been extremely important to me and I have been very active in different committees/associations. Two of these years I was part of PrU, where I was part of the board one year. For three years I have been part of Corpus and Flix and have held several larger positions within the associations. Currently, I am the chairperson of Corpus Karrolina and during the past year we have been helping with the renovations of spegelsalen and klubbvåningen at MF. I have thus gained insight into several aspects of MFs activities och would now like to join FuM in order to be able to influence the decisions made regarding the union house, its activities and how its members are treated.

Hi! I am a girl from Norrland who recently started the first semester in the medical program. Only after five weeks I have become attached to KI and all its people, and I have got myself a new family. I’m sure that the next six years will be the best six years of my life and I’ll expand my new family.
I want to run for council because I want to be involved and spread the positivity and commitment that I have fallen in love with here at KI. In addition, I am extremely curious about how an already perfect environment like KI can get even better.

I have experience from before when I have held the position of president of the Sports Commite at Skvaderns gymnasieskola. Now I look forward to contribute my own knowledge to make KI a second home for all students and be the students’ voices.

What is the union election?

In the union election, Kårvalet, all MF student members vote for the candidates they consider should get a mandate in the union council, Fullmäktige (FuM), which is the highest decision-making body within the student union.

  • The union election takes place between October 22nd and 29th 
  • A voting link will be sent to all MF student members on October 22nd – become a member latest on October 20th to be able to vote in the election
  • Each members can vote for a maximum of five candidates
  • The voting closes on October 29th at 23:59
  • The Election Commission presents the results on October 30th!

Why should I vote?

The union council, Fullmäktige (FuM), is the highest decision-making body of Medicinska Föreningen (MF). FuM consists of MF members that together make the large decisions regarding the student union, such as:

  • decisions about strategic issues of MF that affect all members
  • decisions about the budget and activity plan for the entire student union
  • elections of the President, Vice President, Board and other central positions of trust within MF
  • elections of the student representatives that represent all students in central bodies at KI

By voting in the election you affect who YOU think should have a mandate in the union council and influence what happens at MF and what issues we students pursue towards KI. Vote in the union election for a better student life, a better study environment and a better education at KI.

    Application period

    All MF student members have been able to send in their candidacies to the union council Fullmäktige.

  • 15 Oct

    Presentation of the candidates

    The Election Commission presents the candidates in the general election.

  • 22 Oct

    Election pub

    The voting starts and the union election begins! At the Friday pub this week you can meet candidates and take the chance to cast your vote for the ones you want to see in Fullmäktige.

  • 22 - 29 Oct

    Kårvalet - the voting

    All MF student members vote for a maximum of five candidates each, and determine who will be elected to a seat in the union council Fullmäktige.

    October 29th is also the last day for the sections to let the Election Commission know which section representatives have been elected.

    Presentation of election results

    The Election Commission presents the results of the election!

  • 20 Nov

    First meeting

    The newly elected FuM has its first meeting! Here e.g. the President, Vice President, Board, Speaker and Vice Speaker of MF are elected. The first meeting is often a little longer than a regular meeting and is therefore held on Saturday 20 November at 11 am. Other meetings take place in the evening on weekdays, usually at 6 pm.
