The union election Kårvalet 2021 is approaching

Soon it’s time! The annual union election, Kårvalet, takes place between 22 and 29 October. The members of Medicinska Föreningen will then vote for the candidates to the union council, Fullmäktige, the highest decision-making body of the student union. The candidates are presented on 15 October, and on 22 October all student members will get a voting link via email to vote for a maximum of five candidates. Remember to become a member latest on 20 October to be able to vote in the union election!

Why should I vote?

The union council, Fullmäktige (FuM), is the highest decision-making body of Medicinska Föreningen (MF). FuM consists of MF members that together make the large decisions regarding MF, such as deciding about the activity plan, budget and strategic issues that affect all the members and students at Karolinska Institutet (KI). FuM elects the central positions of trust at MF and the central student representatives that represent the students towards KI.

This means that FuM is where you can really influence what happens at MF and which questions us students lift to KI. By voting in the union election you affect who YOU want to represent your opinions for a better student life, a better study environment and a better education at KI. 

What is Fullmäktige?

The union council, Fullmäktige (FuM), is the highest decision-making body of Medicinska Föreningen (MF). FuM consists of up to 29 members. Members to FuM are elected once a year in the union election in October and the term of office is from November to November. 15 of the 29 mandates in FuM are reserved for section representatives, and the remaining mandates go to members appointed in the union election, Kårvalet. FuM elects the speaker, vice speaker and secretary who lead the FuM meetings. Among other things, FuM:

  • decides about strategic issues that affect all members
  • decides about the budget and activity plan for entire MF
  • elects President, Vice President, Board and other central positions of trust within MF
  • elects the student representatives to represent all students in central bodies at KI

Timeline for the union election

  • 27 Sep - 8 Oct

    Application period

    All interested student members have had the chance to send in their application to the general election to Fullmäktige.

  • 15 Oct

    Presentation of the candidates

    The Election Commission presents the candidates in the general election.

  • 22 Oct

    Election pub

    The voting starts and the union election begins! On the Friday pub this week you can meet candidates and take the chance to cast your vote for the ones you want to see in Fullmäktige.

  • 22 - 29 Oct

    Kårvalet - the voting period

    All MF student members get voting link to their email and can vote for up to five candidates – this determines who will become a member of the union council Fullmäktige.

    Presentation of election results

    The Election Commission presents the election results!

  • 20 Nov

    First meeting

    The newly elected FuM has its first meeting! Here e.g. the President, Vice President, Board, Speaker and Vice Speaker of MF are elected. The first meeting is often a little longer than a regular meeting and is therefore held on Saturday 20 November at 11 am. Other meetings take place in the evening on weekdays, usually at 6 pm.
