Re-election of Fullmäktige – candidates

The Election Commission hereby presents the candidates in the re-election of the student union council! Look through the candidates, read their motivations and choose who you want to see in the highest decision-making body of Medicinska Föreningen, the union council Fullmäktige (FuM).

The election is your opportunity to decide who should make important decisions that affect the whole student union, all of the sections, committees, commissions, associations and members – what future do you see in Medicinska Föreningen?

The voting link is sent out via KI survey to all student members’ e-mails on February 13th. The link is sent to the e-mail address that is registered for you in the member registry, remember to also check the spam mail. Did you not receive the voting link? Get in touch with the Election Commission and we will help you.

The election takes place between February 13th and 20th. The student members of MF then vote for a maximum of five candidates each to determine who will become the members of the union council.

The Election Commission has received 36 valid candidacies in the general election! In the election in October the number of valid candidacies was 34.

Anahita Amirpour

Doctoral student

I am a Ph.D. student with a background in nurse anesthesia – with a good insight into both doctoral student life and clinical life. I want to be a union council member as I am interested in making MF a more inclusive and transparent organization. The entire student population ought to be represented at the council level. I have one vision that all students and Ph.D students at KI should feel that their needs are met during their studies. As a person, I am highly responsive, determined, and straightforward, and I have extensive experience from several non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross. I currently have two student representative posts at KI; one is within the doctoral education committee, and the other is in the dissertation committee.

I am applying to the Union Council because I care about the future of Medicinska Föreningen and I wish to be a part of developing our union. I have previous experience both from involvement in my section and the Union Council. I would like to participate in creating an active and fruitful student life available for all members. For me it is also important that everybody is able to speak their voice and to consider different perspectives when making decisions.

Medicinska Föreningen is our student council, and is our chance to have an impact on both the education and the student life here at KI. Since both the education and the student life has suffered during the pandemic, just like us, it is central that MF works hard in what is (hopefully) the end of the pandemic to make sure that the education and student life we desire returns.

This is why I´m running for fullmäktige – to make sure that the restrictions we have had to accept both in our student life and education don´t become permanent so that we can get a new, fun and accessible student life and the best education possible.

As a student at KI and as a board member of LÄSK for the third year in a row, I have taken part of, aswell as created the student life at KI. Therefore, I have experiences and points of views that are an asset to have be a part of Fullmäktige, in the purpose of letting KIs student life reach its fullest potential.

I joined FuM in August, and my involvement has therefore been short, but intense. Following the latest meetings, it’s evident to me that there are many areas that need improvement within MF of which certain points stand out more than others. It needs to be easier to get involved in and understand how MF works and what the union does, so that the union is not closed off for a select few. Hence, it’s important that the union is open about its work and reaches out to all of its student body, including international students. Most importantly, the decisions taken in FuM should and must reflect the unions’ opinions and needs. The main goal should always be that these decisions are in the best interest of the union members and its staff. It’s clear to me that there’s a drive, energy and enthusiasm from students to improve MF, and I’d love to continue to be a part of that.

Studying here in Karolinska Institute has always been a dream of mine and I want to be able to make most of it. To me, joining FuM seems like a great opportunity to both influence the program that I go in as well as my student life. I would be incredibly honored to have the opportunity to learn more about MF and help in making KI a second home, not only for myself, but for all the other students here.

If anyone in MF recognizes me from the last six months it’s probably because I was elected for FuM and then worked hard to dissolve it. There are several documents in which one can find out my motivations as to why I fought to dissolve FuM, but in essence I think that MF had become an unsafe environment for its members. To follow through with this I’m now going up for re-election, to fight for everyone’s perceived safety and comfort in the student union. That’s the only thing I care about.

Hi!
I am passionate about MF being a student union where you feel safe and where it is easy to organize events for union members. MF is organized by the students, for the students. For this reason I will be working for ease of access for student engagement and for a student union where everyone can feel welcome.

I have been involved in several different parts of MF. I have been a board member of both the introductory weeks of the medical programme and the sports committee. I have also been on stage, sung, and been band leader for the student spex groups Corpus and Flix. I hope this experience can help me navigate the intricacies of board etiquette! I am also fairly tall. It can come in handy sometimes.

I have my own platform with a focus on teaching and mentoring to broaden the surgical horizon and to help from study plan to study materials to group lectures to personal and career counseling of around 21K members worldwide to be approved for Royal College’s membership degree, Arab Board degree and Local Surgical degree qualification in several others countries plus more and have one hundred percent success rate with satisfied and happy members. I am a very flexible and positive person who is always willing and happy to help others in need.

MF is the home for more of 3000 students, all of them with different background, stories, thoughts and goals. FuM should be the place where these differences are highlighted, defended and supported to make them one of the most powerful tools for the Union life. As a FuM member I will make sure that all students are treated equally and that they can get from their, our, union what they need. Now and in the future. Since the first day at KI, all of our student community should be able to call MF their home! But, every home needs maintenance, so it could remain a joyful place for all future generations. It’s on FuM to take decisions that don’t forget this important aspect and I will always keep this in mind. Professionality and Equality, the MF core values, will guide all of my decisions.

The reason why I believe that I should be elected to FUM again, is that I have a strong passion to help my fellow human beings no matter who you are or what background you have. Being helpful and spreading as much love as possible is also a strong passion that I have warm in my heart and being part of FUM would enable me to practice this and influence students’ lives in a positive way. I am good at dealing with stress and know how I should react in different situations that can be considered stressful. In addition, I find it easy to collaborate with others, which is an important quality you must have to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

I am in my last year of doctoral studies in vaccine immunology. I have been active in MF since my first year at KI, primarily within the Doctoral Students’ Association. I believe the union council is a platform to affect changes to our organization so that it better represents all of us, students at KI. One should not forget that the union exists to primarily represent all students at KI and secondly to provide value to its members. The past years I have worked actively to make sure that the sections have increased influence within MF and that transparency is increased with regards to budget and organization. Innan min master program har jag varit medlem i Naturvetarnas fackförening och fått lite erfarenhet av att vara representant samt vara en röst för mina kollegor på jobbet. Why should I vote?

The union council, Fullmäktige (FuM), is the highest decision-making body of Medicinska Föreningen (MF). In FuM, MF members meet to make the largest decisions regarding the student union. By voting in the election you influence for instance:

  • decisions about strategic issues of MF that affect all members
  • decisions about the budget and activity plan for the entire student union
  • elections of the President, Vice President, Board and other central positions of trust within MF
  • elections of the student representatives that represent all of us students in KI’s central bodies

FuM consists of members elected in the general election, as well as section representatives elected by the sections. FuM has 29 seats, 15 of these are reserved for section representatives, and the remaining seats are filled by members appointed in the general election.

Timeline for the election

  • 17 - 30 Jan

    Application period

    All MF student members have been able to send in their candidacies to the union council Fullmäktige.

  • 6 Feb

    Presentation of the candidates

    The Election Commission presents the candidates in the general election.

  • 13 - 20 Feb

    The general election

    All MF members eligible to vote will receive a voting link to their email and can vote for up to five candidates each – this will determine who will be elected to FuM in the general election.

  • 20 Feb

    Last day for sections to report their decisions

    The sections need to inform the Election Commission about their elected section representatives and substitutes latest on February 20th.

  • 22 Feb

    Presentation of election results

    The Election Commission presents the election results!
