Positions of trust 2024

Since 1877, Medicinska Föreningen has been driven forward by committed members — Karolinska Institutet’s students and alumni. Do you want to deepen your commitment to the student union’s work and at the same time gain valuable experience for the future? Do you feel that you have the knowledge to contribute to, for example, making the student union’s activities more efficient?

It is now time to apply or nominate for positions of trust within Medicinska Föreningen 2022! On November 19th, the union council Fullmäktige (FuM) will have their first meeting and elect positions of trust for next year. Read about all the positions below and send in your application or nominate someone to a position you think they’d do a great job at. Last day to apply or nominate is on November 7th.

President

The President (ordförande) of Medicinska Föreningen represents the whole student union as its main spokesperson and leads the work of the Board. Note that this position is a full-time position and requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Vice president

The Vice President (vice ordförande) is the deputy of the President. The position can be held by one to three persons, and depending on how many Vice Presidents are elected the remuneration and work can vary. Note that this position is a full-time position and requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Secretary

The secretary (sekreterare) is a member of the Board and writes the minutes at every meeting with the Board as well as the union council (Fullmäktige). Note that this position requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Board members

The Board (styrelsen) is the highest operative body within Medicinska Föreningen. The Board decides on strategic questions, supports the committees and sections and works to improve and develop MF. Note that being a Board member requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Speaker

The Speaker (talman) leads the meetings of the union council Fullmäktige. Fullmäktige is Medicinska Föreningen’s highest decision-making body. The position as Speaker requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Vice Speaker

The vice Speaker (vice talman) is the deputy of the Speaker, a position that requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Operations auditors and substitutes

The task of the operations auditors’ (sakrevisorer) is to review Medicinska Föreningen’s activities to ensure that bylaws have been complied with, that the student union develops and that decisions have been made correctly. The positions require fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Standards bearer

The standards bearer (standarförare) is Medicinska Föreningen’s ceremonial master, and toastmaster at all the balls and sittnings organised by the student union. The position requires fluent Swedish. Please see the Swedish page for more information.

Hostess

The hostess (värdinna) works together with the host to prepare invitations, table seating and welcoming of guests to Medicinska Föreningen’s balls and sittnings. The position requires fluent Swedish. Please see Swedish page for more information.

Tomb keeper

The tomb keeper (gravvårdare) ensures that Medicinska Föreningen’s burial grounds at Norra begravningsplatsen in Solna are taken care of, and executes a torchlight procession at the day of all souls. The positions requires Swedish.

Editor-in-chief and publisher of Medicor

The Editor-in-Chief (chefredaktör) is the publisher (ansvarig utgivare) of Medicinska Föreningen’s magazine Medicor and leads the team working with producing the magazine. The Medicor team is a subgroup of the Communication Committee and the magazine has previously been sent out as a paper (in English) and some articles have also been published on Medicor’s website. To help the Editor-in-Chief, a deputy publisher is also elected.

Publisher of the website

The publisher (ansvarig utgivare) of MF’s website is the person responsible for what is published on www.medicinskaforeningen.se. The website is taken care of by the Communication Committee. To help the publisher, a deputy publisher is also elected. The position requires fluent Swedish.

Nominating Commission – chair, secretary and members

The Nominating Commission (Valberedningen) prepares the elections of positions of trust and student representative positions to be elected by the union council (Fullmäktige). Examples of such positions are the President and Board of MF and central student representatives within Karolinska Institutet, as well as the positions below. The work entails announcing the positions, collecting candidacies and presenting nominations to the union council regarding whom to elect for the positions. Before submitting their nominations, the Nominating Commission examines that the candidates meet the requirements for the position in question, for example by conducting interviews with candidates for central positions of trust.

Equal Treatment Commission – chair, vice chair, secretary, members

The Equal Treatment Commission (Likabehandlingsnämnden) works to ensure equality for all students, regardless of sex, gender identity or expression, age, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs, sexual orientation or disability. The commission works with these issues both within MF and towards the university.

The chair of the commission leads the equal treatment work by summoning and preparing meetings and by being its spokesperson. The vice chair helps the chair and acts as chair in their absence. The secretary keeps the minutes for the commission’s meetings.

Scholarship Reviewing Commission – chair and members

The task of the Scholarship Reviewing Commission is to prepare the Board for matters concerning the distribution of scholarships through review of received applications. The commission also handles the announcement of the scholarships and ensures that applications are received. All members are encouraged to apply, but note that the chair will need to be fluent in Swedish. It is also beneficial if other members are familiar with Swedish.

Ceremony Commission – member

The purpose of the Ceremony Commission (Ceremoninämnden) is to develop and work for continuity in Medicinska Föreningen’s ceremonies and in contact with individuals important to the student union. The Ceremony Commission consists of the Inspector, the standards bearer, the host couple, MF’s President, MF’s vice President and two other members. The chairs of the Programme Committee and the Reception Committee are constantly co-opted to the commission’s meetings. The other two members are elected by the union council for a term of three years. A period of at least one year shall elapse between the election of the two members.

Auditors and substitutes for the foundations managed by MF

The auditor’s task is to review the management of the foundations managed by Medicinska Föreningen and to ensure that laws, bylaws and regulations have been followed correctly during the financial year. The position requires fluent Swedish. The foundations managed by MF are:

    Make sure to apply and nominate latest on the 4th of November through the form on this page!

    After this the Nominating Commission (Valberedningen) will go through all the applications and nominations and hold interviews for the most central positions. The Nominating Commission will after that send their nominations to the union council (Fullmäktige, FuM).

    You will be contacted by the Nominating Commission with information about whether you have been nominated and with more information about the FuM meeting where the positions of trust will be elected.

    Interviews for central positions

    The Nominating Commission (Valberedningen) holds interviews with candidates to the central positions on the 6th and 7th of November. The Nominating Commission will contact those called for an interview.

  • 20 Nov

    Union council meeting

    On Saturday November 20th at 11.00 am, the union council (Fullmäktige, FuM) has their first meeting. At this meeting they elect the positions of trust for next year!

    The meeting will be held digitally and if you have applied for or been nominated to a position you will receive a link from the Nominating Commission so that you can participate and present yourself.

    Even if you haven’t been nominated you will receive the link so that you can participate and get the chance to present yourself and be elected in case FuM approves free nomination at the meeting.
